Today President Obama announced that states will have the option of extending non-grandfathered insurance plans that do not meet Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements, through 2014. Patrick Johnston Comments On the Release of Initial Covered California Enrollment Numbers

Earlier today, the state’s health insurance exchange, Covered California, released data on the number of Californians who have signed up for coverage since its launch on October 1, 2013. This first enrollment report, which reflects one month of the six-month open enrollment period, demonstrates initial interest in Covered California. In order to have coverage effective on January 1, 2014, individuals must enroll by December 15, 2013. Open enrollment concludes March 31, 2014. more >>>

Patrick Johnston Comments on Department of Insurance Mandated Delay on Phasing Out of Some Health Plans

Earlier today, the California Department of Insurance announced that it is requiring Blue Shield of California Life and Health Insurance Company to extend the availability of some individual and family policies, which do not comply with new Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements, until March 31, 2014. This new requirement only extends these policies for three months, while all other non-ACA compliant plans will be phased out in California by the end of 2013. Customers who now have this option are urged to carefully weigh the potential costs of delaying enrollment in a new, ACA compliant plan. more >>>
